Garroch Glen Shepherds Huts

Our shepherds huts are situated in the beautiful Garroch Glen, just 3 miles from the scenic village of St Johns Town of Dalry. Set in the Glenkens valley, surrounded by rolling hills, the river Dee and on the edge of Loch Ken, there is lots to see and do.

Whether you are looking for an activity break, explore the area or sit back and relax, there is something for everyone. The area is well known for walking the Southern Upland Way, bird watching, fishing, cycling and artists workshops. Our shepherds huts are ideally placed to explore the many attractions in Dumfries and Galloway.

St Johns Town of Dalry, 3 miles. Enjoy a walk into the village along the river. You will find the award winning Clachann Inn pub where you can have lunch, an evening meal, or just enjoy a drink.  There is also a small shop with a post office, garage with a small shop, a charity shop and buses into Castle Douglas or Dumfries.

The small village of New Galloway, is approx 2 miles. You will find another shop, The Smithy cafe, post office and the Catstrand arts centre which hosts small music events, a cinema and cafe.

Just a few miles down the road is the Galloway Activity Centre situated on Loch Ken where you can enjoy watersports such as sailing, canoeing. They also have great activities for kids, paintballing, zip slides etc and have all sorts of family packages.

The busy market town of Castle Douglas is 15 miles away with a main street full of interersting shops, 3 award winning butchers, Earths Crust bakery, cafes, bike shops and much more.

The artists town and fishing town of Kirkcudbright is a little further but only a 30 min drive. Also full of great shops, cafes and art galleries. Take a coastal drive from Kirkcudbright to Borgue, stop at Cream of Galloway for an ice cream and then onto beautiful Mossyard beach. On the way there is also a chocolate factory!

Or visit Wigtown, now famously known for hosting the Wigtown Book Festival. Full of interesting cafes and book shops.
